Mt St-Michel was also a scriptorium, one of the most important in Europe It went into decline in the 15th Century, like many others, at the event of the printing press by Gutenberg During the medieval era, it would take a monk about 6 months to a year, and sometimes longer, to copy an illuminated manuscript/incunabulum
