We'd love to hear your thoughts below guys How can we make tourism better? How can we ensure that overtourism doesn't ruin the very thing that as tourists we want to experience? 👇🏽 Comment from : Spain Revealed |

Tourism is MASS tourism nowadays This new brand of tourist should be hosted in the outskirts of any city, in basic facilities similar to the ones that are built for refugees Think of it, you kill two birds with one shot: provide the cheapest housing for the hordes of infamous tourists and you don’t clog our beautiful centers with low life cheap tourist apartments Comment from : Arcabuz |

Don’t worry, the tourists will be back…but personally speaking, I’ve learned that eating out is really too expensive, and not really good value for money, sick of paying £20 for a steak, that I can cook better…and I think we are all getting a little more careful Comment from : Nigel Lee |

I really do believe that tourism is a form of gentrification I live in a touristic coastal town and it's getting very hard to rent anything decent, since owners much rather turn It into an Airbnb Comment from : AngryCandy89 |

Great video and great questions I think it is a worldwide problem where cities are being gentrified and catered to tourists to the point that the entire energy of the city becomes stale and generic I live in Seattle, Washington, USA and it is a huge problem here No one can afford to live in the city center unless they are wealthy - you can only find very small apartments (150-250 sq feet) for no less than $1000, usually closer to $2000 Older buildings with character are being ripped down constantly for big multi-use high-rises which have no character My partner and I live a 20 minute drive from downtown Seattle and our apartment is $1500 per month The service workers- baristas, bartenders, hotel staff, etc have to commute an hour or more sometimes just to get downtown to work If this type of thing keeps happening, we will lose what we all love so much about individual cities, and that makes me so sad Thank you for brining light to the subject!

No It is the Gvmt who is traying its best to ruin the country Tourism represents just 12 of Spain's GDP, including local tourisim Foreing tourisim reached the non despicable amount of 70000 M € last year, wich is important but nothing to be worried about in a country whose GDP was 1244 billion € Comment from : robert111k |

Amazing video and thank you so much for putting this together! My wife is from Almería and I absolutely love everything about Spain I hope this whole experience does get cities re-thinking this tourism phenomenon so more of the most historic part of the cities can have that local feel It would be amazing to dedicate a certain percentage of the area that had affordable enough housing for locals to stay around or something Not sure how it could be done, but there has to be something innovative that can be done Thanks again! Jacinda Ardern, New Zelands Prime Minister's ethos and approach to Covid 19 would have profoundly helped and changed the direction of this virus in Spain and Europe We should have taken her advice and acted like wisebrNow we are ALL suffering needlessly to the whims and wanton devastation of this pandemic God help us all Comment from : CJ McEleavy |

interesting discussion around how unchecked tourism is destroying everything local in its ugly unregulated path When I was in Barca and Madrid back in the early 80,s, I truly struggled , in a good way to survive My Spanish was patheticNow I won’t consider going there because it’s so overrun Devour Travel has done played part in that phenomenon Am I the only one who thought that you guys were suggesting that now would the perfect time to come? You still operating right? Comment from : paul gilliland |

In my humble opinion, there are 2 problems 1Access to credit for young entrepreneurs 2 high rentsbrI lived in Beckenham ( outskirts of London ) and even successful businesses were just outpriced and replaced by a chain who could afford paying better rent brThere needs to be some mild regulation in place , otherwise chains keep on clustering(renting a place for just a few months just for the sake of having exposure and driving competitors out) Comment from : O E |

Thanks, guys! Another person who had the very same questions some time ago"Travel has nothing to do with moving your bottom from one place to another" - Quote from "El Rey Tuerto" I think we have to educate ourselves in so many aspects and traveling should be on our list It seems that nothing we consume has limits However, pre-COVID times, the city centers in so many cities seemed to have reached its breaking point So, as travelers, why were we just adding places to our must-see and not-original-at-all list? Isn't it better to travel less and experience a lot more? And let's create our own memories with people from there, real food, regular neighborhoods, local events Comment from : Ana |

This is what happens when government interferes with the market All the people making the rules about staying in your house, wearing a mask, not meeting more than x amount of people are still earning their salaries Perhaps if their livelihood depended on the state of the economy, they'd actually think about what they are doing Comment from : Ragnar |

You have loaded the plate with food for thought in this video I don't work directly in tourism, but used to in an adjunct way, in Mexico I taught Spanish to Gringos, mostly American and Canadian ex-pats who were spending at least their winters in sunny Mexico, When the security situation was deteriorating in many parts of Mexico, the US put out all sorts of terse warnings and Americans stopped coming Canadians continued to arrive, and I noticed that my classes went from 80/20 US to 80/20 Canada I changed parts of my teaching to reflect this Ok, what I'm driving at is education for tourists That's exactly what you have been doing and continue to do Your exploration of cities beyond Madrid and coastal gems, like Cuenca and Caceres, are an excellent move and will bring people to those fantastic cities long after Covid is at least manageable Yet, considering Madrid and Barcelona, visiting the Casco Viejo and staying there is two different things The expansion of where to stay, beyond the center, at least on a node of transportation, is a good start We have tried to balance this in our travels One, to go to places less known, like Zaragoza, that are fantastic to visit Two, to consider how our actions, even if small ones, affect the locals We saw push-back against ATs (tourist apartments) in Sevilla and Barcelona, and didn't stay in one We stayed in an AT in smaller cities where the tourist push-out-the-locals effect is smaller or not apparent I think that at least acknowledging the problem and seeking solutions is the first step Now it gets collaborative to try to solve it and the people who live or make a living in city centers need to be brought into the conversation Comment from : Tim Murphy |
|

Wow, ok wow I'm American and I am applying for a student visa for Spain starting in November I was so stoked about going to Barcelona during this time because I was thinking, "I'll have this wonderful city all to myself and the locals!" I didn't know how right I was Comment from : jip230 |

The globalists already have almost completely destroyed tourism, which is not considered a sustainable activity by them Airplanes, hotels and travel agencies will be a thing of the past for average people Those who will still be able to afford to travel, will need an adequate social scoring and and proof that they have been vaccinated against covid19 Whoever takes the Rothschild mRNA "vaccine" will die of cancer within a few yearsbr(You can laugh off, what I have just written here and call me names But I care about that as little as you bothered to care about what's really going on in the world In the meantime you can wear your slave masks, that will not protect you from anything other than a fine untill they make you roll up your sleeves You have been warned !) Comment from : Bob Anderson |

Love your channel! As someone who used to live in Madrid (95-2000) it saddens me greatly to see what has happened and right now I wouldn't go near the place Never thought I'd say that The Spanish government are a disgrace but they're reading off the same hymn sheet as the rest of the world This is all part of an economic reset dubbed the 4th industrial revolution by the world economic forum Covid is being used as the bogeyman More chance of people under the age of 70 dying in a bike accident unless they're obese or diabetic brbrA goal of the World Economic Forum is to create a literal Internet of Bodies using 5G (soon 6G) and “smart city” Internet of Things sensors Whether people are linked to blockchain via Covid biometric health passports or education transcripts, the result will be the same We are crossing the threshold not just into surveillance capitalism, but into full-on biocapitalism Our bodies mined for data that will run massive futures markets in human capital They need blockchain identity, and they need it brought to scale However until that happens, there is still time to change course and fight for a humane economic system that respects all children of the earth and future generations Blockchain will not empower the people, it will turn them into digital commodities Secured on ledgers, the plan is for us to be scored, sifted, and sorted in a brutish program of fierce competition and precariousness Make no mistake, the oligarchs value the reliability of robots over the cunning of humans Universal Basic Income, and digital vouchers for education, housing and healthcare are poison apples, not “solutions” meant to help the masses Blockchain is a deception If we take the bait, we’ll end up “playable” characters in an augmented reality “game of life” cooked up by the CIA and defense contractors to benefit hedge funds Don’t fall for it" Alison Hawver McDowellbrbrThe public have to stand up to the tyranny It's our only chance of saving all the beautiful tradition you highlight in your wonderful videos! God bless De Madrid al cielo! Comment from : Ocean Waves |
