HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY! 💚🇯🇲brMy first video on History of Jamaica I try to avoid giving my personal opinion - just facts and official data which I gathered through several sources (see the list in description) Not sure if history videos will be interesting for many people, but since I'm a big fan of History in general, I thought I had to share this Comment from : JAMAICA WITH IRIE |
Thanks Irena for refreshing my memory on the way we became a nation Jamaicans are always striving for the top, you are a beacon that shines to take us out of the dark A lot of young people don't know the rough road that the ancestors traveled that they are reaping thebenefits nowBig up to you and all the conscious Jamaicans Excelsior in the highest Comment from : Alvin Morris |

Isn't it interesting that no one in the media bothers to explain why big names worldwide like Trudeau and Obama love to visit Jamaica if it's such a horrible and dangerous place? After all, they could go to the Riviera, Barbados and Aruba that aren't "dangerous" like Jamaica! Comment from : Dovy Goodguy |
This is summarized beautifully but just want to add something important for the students of Caribbean History brThe Morant Bay rebellion (1865) began the first step in the process towards CONSTITUTIONAL DECOLONIZATION in the British Caribbean It ended the Old Represntative form of Government where the white planters made the laws for Jamaica in the local Legislative Assembly It was replaced in that year by Crown Colony Government which replaced the Legislative Assembly with a Governor (aided by a committee) who carried out the will of the British Crown Comment from : Rose Simpson |
Love this Thanks for sharing 😅 Comment from : Cecile Hunter |

I’m a history major This was really helpful and well researched I also appreciated the disclaimers made that was not all sunshine and rainbows I was surprised to not see the Christmas rebellion mentioned here though considering it was the largest slave revolt in Jamaica Other than that, great video! Comment from : Spoon |
Jamaica will become a banana republic withoutthe UK! WHO will defend them? Do they have military armies and a navy! Let them gobut reparation given will likely be mismanaged! It's already a country of abject poverty! They cannot have everything? The Queen herself isn't responsible for slavery? What about the US Will they too have to make reparations for all of their slavery sins? I am not racist either! Comment from : C DeLorenzo |

Very well done documentary I was a teenager in Jamaica in the days leading up to and after independence Since my family was British, I suppose we were considered to be "upper class", although I certainly never thought of myself in that way I remember the parades in Kingston on Independence Day We were a little concerned about our safety, but nothing was ever physically done against us We emigrated to the States in 1965 when a law was past by the Jamaican government that you had to be a Jamaican citizen in order to work there (I'm not sure if that was 100 true, but that's what I was told) I was also told that, in order to stay, we would have had to give up our British passports Comment from : Graham Martin |

Interesting work Time constraints means necessary editing, The founders of the PNP & JLP parties were first cousins according to Norman Manley's unfinished autobiography Jamaica under the Spaniards was awarded to the Columbus family after one of Chrisopher Columbus' sons took to court the written legal claims his father had been promised by the sovereigns The case lasted about two decades but in the end the family won In 1655 when the British invaded it was a sparsely populated place Comment from : Sean Reynolds |

As usual you did a good job This was well researched and professionally presented I always learn something new from your vlogs The spanish heritage of Jamaica is not usually given much space mostly a passing mention yet most of our rivers and many towns do have a spanish name Those dates you mention about the spanish past and some of the other stuff I didn't know about Great job keep it up Comment from : zndrsmith |
