I live in UK and I have visited SL many times, but the lack of an updated animal welfare bill , makes it very difficult for myself and family to visit SL The cruelty shown to captive Elephants is heartbreaking , the Elephants that we want to see in the wild are chained for most of the day, and live a pitiful existance , Threatened will bullhooks to make them submissive and forced to enter the perahera The perahera does not need Elephants Ive seen bull Elephants chained on all four legs 24/7 Captive Elephants live a life with a complete loss of dignity This and the way some people treat the stray dogs is enough to make me and others think twice before visiting Sri Lanka I have also witnessed drivers complete lack of compassion towards stray dogs in the road There are many sanctuaries and people in SL caring for injured and disabled dogs and cats, some run over many abused Ive known people to throw boiling water over animals , and even stone them, you desperately need the animal welfare act enacted or you may lose more tourists I love SL but the cruelty towards animals is appalling

The historical sites with all the huge Dagobas etc are yet there for the simple reason, and that been they are not easy to be stolen and sold by the Politicians Look at the how the Colomboi Museuam has shrunk in what they displayed 50 years ago to what is remaining today

The ONLY reason why Sri Lanka has not progressed is because the SL Tourism Board has been run in the last 20 years by people who have no idea on Tourism & Travel What experience does the presnt Minister have? Look at hin checking his mobile while others are talking Maldives has improved 10 fold although they have only white beaches and the underwater life Oh forgot corruption amongst the main reasons

Tourism to improve in Srilanka there has to be unity the Tamils have to be recognized as Srilankans with equal rights this is an important factor develope north and east I didn't see anyone representing the north and east with their ideas how to develop north and east
