There are many nice places in Philadelphia Fitler Square, Center City, Society Hill, Fishtown, Rittenhouse Square, Old City, Gayborhood, etc IT's the bad parts that always get mentioned in the news but having visited these neighborhoods and downtown dozens of times I will say that it is a city with charming areas All of those neighborhoods are not what is looked at as Philadelphia in the press They are safe, clean, and quaint with many charming federal and colonial apartments that are well looked after Philly is not just Kensington contrary to what people think

In 2009, I was on a 6-week road trip around the US I only stopped in Philadelphia for lunch on the way south down the east coast, so I didn’t give it a real chance brbrBut driving along side a river there somewhere, I turned right when I should’ve kept going straight, and all if a sudden, I found myself in the biggest hell hole suburb I could have imagined, with boarded up dilapidated houses, no trees anywhere, and down-n-outers sitting on the kerb, staring at me cruising through their neighbourhood in my 300c rental car, wondering what the hell I was doing there I was thinking the same thing brbrAll I was trying to do was get the hell out of Philly without a SatNav; not as easy as it sounded!brbrUnfortunately, that afternoon in Philly was in the top 3 worse experiences on that trip The other two were:br- Civic Centre (?), San Francisco: Getting off the train and facing the tsunami of homeless people at street level was a heck of an introduction to the USbr- DC: I made the mistake of booking a room at a cheap motel in the wrong part of town On foot, this big guy with an African accent hassled me all the way to the railway station for moneybrbrNext time I travel to the US, I’ll stay away from public transport and spend a bit extra on accommodation

North Philadelphia is kind of rough, but don't think that the entirety of Philly except for Center City is a "hood" South Philadelphia is generally pretty safe, as is University City in West Philly The far ends of North Philadelphia, are pretty nice, too

I think Philly has a beautiful downtown , Have never been there but watch lots of utube videos I personally could never live in a big city but I would love to go to Philly just for all the History and to see the Delaware river Every big City across our Country has bad areas but we have to remember that real people and often good people live in these areas just like some really bad people live in some of the best neighborhoods People often see old citys and think they are dirty when really there just old and building and streets are worn but have so much charm

There's more to Philly than just Market, Broad, JFK, Arch, Vine, or any of the other streets one would often commute in Philly Having done a few Uber Eats deliveries on bike (some I wish I had done better), I saw parts of Philly I would not dare to walk otherwise, and many places I had not the slightest clue existed It was scary, yet fascinating Philadelphia is a city best enjoyed when you aren't tuned into news stations like CBS 3, ABC 6 Action News, NBC 10, or FOX 29 all the time
