भोपाल भारत देश में मध्य प्रदेश राज्य की राजधानी है और भोपाल जनपद का प्रशासनिक मुख्यालय भी है। भोपाल को राजा भोज की नगरी तथा 'झीलों की नगरी' भी कहा जाता है क्योंकि यहाँ कई छोटे-बड़े तालाब हैं। यह नगर अचानक चर्चा में तब आ गया। जब 1984 में अमरीकी कम्पनी, यूनियन कार्बाइड से मिथाइल आइसोसाइनेट गैस के रिसाव से लगभग 20,000 लोग मारे गये थे। भोपाल में भारत हेवी इलेक्ट्रिकल्स लिमिटेड का एक कारखाना है। हाल ही में भारतीय अन्तरिक्ष अनुसन्धान केन्द्र ने अपना दूसरा 'मास्टर कण्ट्रोल फ़ैसिलटी' यहाँ स्थापित किया है। भोपाल में ही भारतीय वन प्रबंधन संस्थान भी है जो भारत में वन प्रबन्धन का एकमात्र संस्थान है। साथ ही भोपाल उन छह नगरों में से एक है जिनमे 2003 में भारतीय आयुर्विज्ञान संस्थान खोलने का निर्णय लिया गया था जोकि वर्ष 2015 से कार्यशील है। इसके अतिरिक्त यहाँ अनेक विश्वविद्यालय हैं जैसे कि राजीव गांधी प्रौद्योगिकी विश्वविद्यालय, बरकतउल्लाह विश्वविद्यालय, अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी हिंदी विश्वविद्यालय, मध्य प्रदेश भोज मुक्त विश्वविद्यालय, माखनलाल चतुर्वेदी पत्रकारिता विश्वविद्यालय, भारतीय राष्ट्रीय विधि विश्वविद्यालय आदि। ― Comment from : Mohan Malviya |
