Karimeen (Pearl Fish) is not a fresh (Sweet) water fish it is available only in brackish water A combination of sea water with river water this happens only at a place where river meets sea and so salinity is lower than sea bur higher than fresh/sweet water Now a days at such locations near backwater, existing water body or created are used for farming Karimeen water is allowed to enter in it and allowed to go out with the help of suitable shutter A very similar fish in appearance called Pilopi (Tilopia) is also harvested in large quantity and some time served as Karimeen The cost difference is very big (Rs150/- and Rs600/- per Kg of raw fish) Comment from : surendranath madappad |
