Try being 70+ years old with a backpack We have meds that young people don’t have I’ve chosen a wheeled carry on with a smallish backpack that fits over the handle My wife, however, takes a 26” roller + a carryon with a pass through I’ve given up trying to reduce her luggage Comment from : csoberman |

I've made a few mistakes, but am learning I wore a pair of gym sneakers last trip to Europe Comfortable for the paved streets of most of the USA, but should have brought my more sturdy work sneakers for the rough cobblestone Comment from : Kyle Eriksen |

It’s just Europe It is no longer the exotic destination of the past Everything is available You could leave tomorrow and buy whatever you forget or need brbrThere’s a bit of overthinking here that “Europe packing” is more exotic than traveling in the US Just learn to pack lightbrbrThat said, lugging and managing a backpack through airports is a hassle Much more relaxing to be on a layover where you’re not worrying about your backpack You can bring a small day pack for your essentials Send the rest in a roller Have you hiked through multiple terminals with a backpack? Save yourself from the hunchback look brbrIt is undignified to roll a suitcase through a city Take Uber to go door to door Rent a car and you don’t have to lug your luggagebrbrAnd as another commenter said - you can always buy anything you forget or need at your destination And you shop local for a souvenir you get to use long term and remember “I got that belt next to the pantheon” Comment from : Paul Curran |

A lot of this video is obvious stuff and like half the video is an advertisement for a specific brand of backpack Comment from : Loki Starwind |

Two things to consider: Instead of buying a relatively expensive plug adapter, a quick trip to a local hardware store when you get there to buy a small powerstrip and a couple cheap adapter plugs will set you up Total cost is less than 12-15 dollars and you can give it away at the end of your trip For shoes — look at trail running shoes They’re light in weight, supportive, have grippy, non-slip soles and can be easily washed with laundry or even shower soap An example would be the Altra Lone Peak 6 Comment from : Fred Osmers |

Enjoy your videos; well-paced, useful information and interesting presentation Good job Regarding guidebooks? Love Rick Steves/Hate Rick Steves, literally Most of what he covers, he does really well I showed up in Grenada without reservations for the Alhambra Rick's guide offered several suggestions for getting tickets I think I would have had to miss the number one sight in Grenada without his guidebook On the other hand, I was in Italy and decided to stop in Modena I packed only the Rick Steves Italy guidebook and there was no mention of Modena in the rather large book There is a lot to see in Modena, but you wouldn't know it existed if you relied only on his guidebook Another downside with Rick Steves' guidebooks is some of the information is badly outdated, even when people send him updated information/corrections (I know, I've sent a few) One example comes to mind, he still talks about Traveler's Checks Crazy, right? I still consult his guidebooks but am more likely to take notes from his guidebook and bring a Michelin Green Guide (if I can get one) They're old but they cover way more potential stops when you're trying to get off the beaten tourist path (like Steves used to preach) Comment from : Brad Benson |

I packed heavily with big luggage to Europe and can't be happier I always travel with a rental car Some cities may not be car friendly or travelers car friendly, but you can always park your car somewhere near the city Believe me, many beautiful places can only be reached by car And the cities in Europe aren't as crowded as Asian ones It's always not so difficult to find the parking lot Comment from : Nim Uil |

I agree with passport copies For necessary things, two equal one and one equal zero, so also two chargers and any other important thing brbrI travel with a second smartphone which the camera broke and that I keep in my luggage I logged in my Google accounts, so I can ask for a copy of my SIM or connect to a wifi and start arranging thingsbrbrI also pay generally with my smartphone and travel with only one credit card and some cash for situations that I need thembrbrI check the routes in populated places and try not to use much the smartphone navigation on the way If I have to check it, I wait to arrive to a safe place My partner also keeps an eye on the surroundings while I check it, we dont do it together brbrAnd wear the backpack on the chest if the metro is crowded Comment from : Homo Analyticus |

I have used Eagle Creek compression cubes for years! My favorite! More expensive than some but lifetime guarantee and I’ve never had one fail I roll my clothes before I pack and that eliminates some wrinkles and I get more things in I did try Bagail but don’t like the heavier weight of the bags and the type of fabric compared to the Eagle Creek Comment from : Kathy Daniels |

We took a TGV train from Montpellier France to Barcelona to catch an Iberia jet home to Miami We had two regular suitcases I cant speak about first class but the second class cars had very little luggage space and we were extremely lucky to find that space But it required me to lug the one hundred pounds of suitcase up to the second level and the lift them should high to get them in storage So be it advised that you have to keep this in mind Backpacks and carryon's are the way to go in second class If we did not find the opening we would have had to stay in between the cars with all our luggage for over three hours and everyone would have been crawiing all over us And we are senior citizens Never again or maybe 1st class if that class has the room Something no one discusses or thinks about Comment from : Shepard Smith |

A backpack only is not an option once life has taken it's tolls on back, hips and neck A light weight softside rolly bag is a better option, generally they aren't as loud either IKEA sells one that is pretty good, and it can be carried too Comment from : shinnam |

Can I just say socks, especially when travelling where you are going to be likely walking more than normal are not something I would reuse They’re small enough that it’s worth a clean pair Wearing crusty socks especially in the summer from sweating would make my trip much less enjoyable Sometimes it’s worth it to add a couple more pairs Not to mention if something happened to a pair or they got wet Comment from : HarrisofCanada |

I just don't understand why people take so many clothes on holiday ! There are STORES in every city ! There are thrift shop, cheap stores like H&M or other, clothes are cheap as long as you have good shoes and a windproof/waterproof lightweight jacket When I went to India I went to a tailor and had clothes made, I was happy, they were happy I left them in the hotel room when I left When I pack I take one pair of jeans, one pair of converse, underwear and some t-shirts I wear stretch pants, Converse, long sleeve t-shirt, a cardigan, a jacket, a cross body, an extra fold up shopping bag and a scarf I usually buy something in a charity shop like my recent goose down Calvin Klein puffer jacket for 10 euros and a cashmere both new for ten euros also Comment from : Stephanie Murray |
