NOTE: At the 12:22 I accidentally said "There's a lot of 'busy work' going on aboard the ship" This was a major mistake and oversight on my part I did not intend to say that, as you could tell through the whole video I am a big advocate for the fantastic restoration work happening aboard the ship I just completely mispoke, and managed to miss that through the editing of the video, and I apologize for that I know the work happening aboard the ship is 100 necessary Again, a mistake on my part for saying that Comment from : Alex the Historian |

I married my first husband on the Queen Mary My husband is British and we have lived in the UK for years He says to tell you that those phone booths dont look any different in their current state than the ones in London Good video Thank you Comment from : Mr & Mrs D |

Wow! I want to visit the Queen Mary now the ship looks amazing and not to mention the history it has Loved your video and the update Comment from : Perseus |
What a JOB! This is incredible Thanks, Alex Your suggestions for public utilisation at the end - I would have thought this a no-brainer for the organizations responsible for the ship If the QM was in Cape Town, it would be a normal functional hotel with a few businesses operating restaurants, bars and boutique shops There would also be an art gallery with a changing exhibition Comment from : Moreno Franco |
Definitely agree with your idea of the ocean liner experience That's what I was expecting when I was onboard, but nothing but locked rooms Comment from : chris gonterman |
Great video I love the updates last time I visited , most of the ship was closed has the bridge reopened Comment from : chris gonterman |

I Love this presentation and History I am HAPPY to hear that this historical and beautiful vessel is being Properly Restored I am a fan of Art Deco and this ship is a Beautiful exapmle of Art Deco Your Ideas for the ship are Fantastic ! This would increase needed revenues to preserve her So much of World History objects go destroyed and lost forever Thank You, Well done ! Comment from : ARIZONA ALCHEMY |

I really want the ghost encounter special effects tour from the 90s to make a comeback Nothing made me feel more immersed than that tour Comment from : ItsKunoTime |
I'm British and I can't understand the problem with the term 'busy work going on' 🤔 It simply means that the restorers are 'busy at work' Maybe it means something different in America? Comment from : John G |

Lose the LED all together, they are no good Florescent is the way to go Comment from : RicksTalentedTongue |

When I moved away from Southern California a few years ago, the Queen Mary was the one place I was sad to leave Even more heartbreaking was the disrepair (and disrespect!) she was allowed to fall into That the City of Long Beach has put their shoulder to the wheel in restoring her is a great testament to their vision for their city I am now so anxious to get back to the Queen She's such a grand, beautiful ship and I never tire of stepping back in time whenever I board By the way, Alex, your suggestions and recommendations for making her more profitable are excellent! I hope the City of Long Beach is listening!brbr(PS: If anyone wants to see the Queen actually sailing, watch the first part of the 1936 movie, "Dodsworth" It's such a thrill to see her afloat, sailing out of New York Harbor!) Comment from : Jane |
Glad that the ship is in better shapebut I'll save my cash for QM2 Comment from : baritonebynight |
they should of kept it the way it was when it was bought such a shame it's difficult and not the dame Comment from : Maxx Michael |
Thank you so much! I really like your ideas to keep the period feeling and experience alive on the ship! I do wish they would implement these ideas into the visiting of the ship! Comment from : Eric Sparks |

Any news about the storied Verandah Grill? Its my understanding that "all the pieces" are still extant, but need to be re-installed in place Comment from : Zorba, The Veiled Male |

Why did they use the 1940s linoleum pattern instead of the 1930s one? 😰 Comment from : Ygor Cortes |
Will they clean up the port wing propeller? Comment from : Bob |
Are they going to get rid of that ugly carpet at 12:29 Comment from : RELAXATIONSTATION |
Great content! We'll be going soon - you mentioned that the engine room you can explore at your leisure Do you recall if they have it open only during certain hours? We stayed in 2019 and we were able to explore after hours since we were staying on the ship - curious if we can still do that or not Thanks! Comment from : DRD |
I wonder why, while in the process of replicating a linoleum floor design that had been on the ship, they didn’t go for the original one from 1936 Must have been a matter of costs too steep to manage Still looks nice, though Comment from : davidpar2 |
I definitely agree with the need for lounging on the ship I remember when i went to see her before the pandemic and it seemed like there was nowhere to just sit, relax and admire the ship and maybe start a conversation with someone Comment from : Lm7bird |

I couldn't agree more with your thoughts on an "Ocean Liner Experience"!! Returning to the age of Steamers, even for a day, would help to preserve not only the Queen Mary but the history of the era in so many aspects (just look at the success various historically themed weekends places like The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island have) Talk about the celebrities who sailed on her including showing their "Latest " (based on the current era being highlighted) movies in the theatre, partner with the studios do have temporary exhibits of the golden age of Hollywood from each with tie-ins to their stars and QM SO much that can be done!!! The Pre-COVID "Titanic in Photographs" exhibition was just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended) Comment from : Greg Ellis |
I hardly use the word "absolutely" but will here Absolutely beautiful!! Comment from : Jimmy Lieb |
Early '60s it was quiet ordinary to glimpse the 'Queens' heading out to sea past Lee-on-Solent from Southampton brSilent serene majestic Hopes and dreams en passage Comment from : Mrbobinge |

Before and after photos would have been nice to appreciate the changes Comment from : Robert Thorpe |
I like your idea of multiple day packages It's on my bucket list to do Comment from : Robert Frost |
You have some really good ideas for the success of the ship It should be a liner experience That’s exactly what I’d want if/when I visit!brbrThey are doing good work on there for sure… bringing back to the golden era Comment from : BakerCars&Hifi |

It does my 73-year-old heart good to see she is being taken care of When I was a boy of nine, we travelled from South Hampton to New York on board the Queen Mary Your video brings back memories of a different world in a magic time when I first saw schools of flying fish The ship seemed impossibly huge to me and I marvelled that it could float Now it seems small and elegant compared with the monstrous cruisers of today I especially remember the swimming pool, as a crew member told me (a bit dramatically, I realise today) that one could sometimes see the wet footprints of a little girl coming for a swim, even though she had been a ghost for many years Comment from : Johannes Bruwer |
Thankyou as always for the update and wow she is looking really good long live a true Queen Comment from : mj |
In some pictures I see The Queen Mary's life boats covered and others they are not, any idea why this is? Comment from : MrGoldenV |
sckorpion aint lookin hot remember touring her as a kid Comment from : WILLIAM POTTS |
Just saying if the lifeboats are causing strain for the ship that not good news, it means the ship is becoming super weak that it eventually won’t be able to support even itself Comment from : Teatheard |
I’m happy to hear she’s being taken care of I hope the one in Philly gets a new lease on life too Comment from : adam ellis |
Have they fixed the horrible air conditioning on the ship ? Was there a few years ago and there was no ac In the rooms Comment from : Josh Varney |
If modern cruise ships still had this beauty and elegance I would consider a cruise (I know, dream on 🙁) Not reproducing the Art Deco floor is disappointing, but the newer floor is not unattractive And not being able to restore the swimming pool without f*****g it up thanks the the inflexibility of ADA is bullshit My two cents All in all, a very enjoyable and hopeful assessment, and I just may have to go see her one of these days Comment from : mescko |
It really important to reserve RMS Queen Mary for its history Comment from : Joann Scott |

I have a Question regarding Queen Mary Has it been given any thought about reaching out to Prince Charles asking for a donation in help of restoring the queen Mary won’t hurt to ask! Comment from : Tal C Erickson |
I can’t wait to go on another cruise aboard her! She is a true marvel! I only wish that they would do a restoration for the SS United States She is truly our nation’s flagship! Comment from : Kevin Keller |
Those art deco floors were so beautiful, it's a crime they were ever removed Really missed an opportunity to put them back Comment from : Jon Corso |
This is so lovely to hear that the old Queen Mary is getting a proper makeover I once traveled on this ship as a child (over 80 now) I had no idea this was happening, the last YouTube vid I watched about the ship, it was almost derilect and there were thoughts on scrapping it! I am so pleased that she is going to have another lease of life I wish you all every good luck with this project and look forward to seeing it completed😀😃😄 Comment from : Kit Farnsworth |
Superb video on an iconic vessel - and your recommendations to Long Beech on improving the business model of the ship are spot on - yes we want an ocean liner experience! Comment from : Colin Stewart |

Instead of bilge pumps why not do what they are doing to the USS Texas, dry dock her and repair her underwater area! I realize this would be spendy, but well worth it! Comment from : Rexford L |
My aunt sailed on the Queen Mary, I think it was soon after WWII My mom said it was still painted gray at the time Married my uncle who was an English sailor who she met in the US during the war Comment from : robb |

Watching this gives me the question how is the Queen Elizebeth ship in Dubai Comment from : Granny_Gaming |
I visited the ship for the very first time yesterday and I can say she is in AMAZING condition (Visited at 26th of July) The aft funnel is still looking stripped and haven’t started painting the funnel yet The restaurant is amazing and has amazing food The engine room still looks amazing Also, There is already one lifeboat put on the Queen Mary at the Bow (The first area for a lifeboat) Overall, it was an absolutely AMAZING experience to see the Queen Mary in REAL LIFE! Comment from : Mango |
Great video mate many family’s had relatives who worked on the Queen Mary wow, I enjoyed it Comment from : George Ashton |
Voilà une occasion de le restaurer et de lui faire réprendre la route de son Royaume des océans 🌊 Comment from : Allal Simah |
Your ideas for generating more income are great @OceanLiner Designs would be a great person to invite to the ship He is very knowledgeable and likes to dress in period correct clothing Hopefully the city was listening and will implement these ideas Thanks for your hard work to bring us updates on the Queen Mary I am thankfu as welll that the city of long beach is taking such good care of her Most of the ocean liners are gone and it's heartwarming to see the preservation of our history and such a beloved ship Comment from : 541 Tech |
Totally agree with all your three suggestions as presented at the end of the video Thanks for the tour/update Comment from : Albie3 |
I love your suggestions!! Especially the one about feeling like a passenger on an ocean liner There is only 1 ocean liner left in the world and the Queen Mary can be more accessible to those who cannot go aboard the Queen Mary 2 Also, it'll be sooo coool to feel like one is in the old days hehehehe This would feel like traveling through time hehehe brbrThe Grey Hound I always found the idea of reducing such an iconic ship sought after by enemy subs, to a mere haunted ship, very out of place She was too fast to be hit by enemies Now that is SUPER COOL!! I know ocean liners mostly functioned as troop-carriers but this wartime element cannot be understated Games like World of Warships increase interest in maritime history I hope more of the Queen Mary's service during war can be highlighted brbrbrLove the idea about working with historical influencers Comment from : Kasvini Muniandy |

Titanic and Submarine just sitting there: the ghost of irony June 2023 Comment from : sonic jet |
The last operator, Privatel (assumed spelling) destroyed the swimming pool They knocked holes into the side to allow piping for the haunting effects for the haunted tours I remember seeing the pool full of water back in the early to mid 90’s It was brightly lit and was exactly as it appeared back in the late 1930’s What a shame to see it now😢 Comment from : Erik Castruita |
How come it's in the US? Was it sold? Comment from : Jake Sahyouni |
SS United States needs to be stored Comment from : BENJI LIFE |
Is the ship really supposed to be haunted or was that just a marketing ploy? Comment from : Robert Baxter |
Love that they have removed the flat screen TVs from the Cocktail Bar Looks brilliant now and hopefully they continue to invest in her Comment from : bruceaisher |
California? Fk that way too far I always thought this ship was somewhere on the east coast Comment from : Me |
Man I remember years ago going on a "ghost tour" in which we did sign a waiver 😬 We got access to areas of the ship not typically access Well a door was opened to a shaft, pretty deep A girl almost fell in😬 Comment from : WilliamAnthonyLeasure777 |
People who say the ship should be on land have no idea how ships are designed Ships are meant to be in water Water pushes equally on the Hull in all areas On land, the hull would be under more stress because no pressure would be pushing on the sides of the ship Comment from : Shane Robinson |
