0:27 Wow Taiwan is the second richest major economy in Asia behind Japan No wonder some Taiwanese are mocking Singaporeans for being poor and lagging so far behind Japan, in terms of GDP per capita Hmmm
Comment from : zzy341

Ero-Usagi-Sama
Sorry what? Why haven't you mentioned unequal exchange when talking about why poor countries stay poor?! Brain drain is only a consequence of the hardship brought on these countries because of their over-exploitation
Comment from : Ero-Usagi-Sama

Where does Singapore stand in terms of GDP per capita?

Very real problem here in Malaysia, a significant portion of my cohort and even immediate family who attended better universities or who had more in demand skill sets end up in Singapore, Australia, the UK, New Zealand etcbrbrAdding on even a large of those who the government sends abroad on scholarships do not return nor pay back the scholarships, we’re literally funding the talent pool of richer countries

A great topic would be to talk about the idea that lowering taxes on the wealthy will actually help a country's economy because the rich are the people who build companies that create jobs and produce products that people love, By allowing the rich to keep more of thier money a country would be able to allocate resources more effectively which leads to a better living standard for the citizens of that country

I’m Brazilian, and I don’t believe Brazil was ever an advanced economy especially because of our over reliance on commodities Many other reasons make it so Brazil was never an advanced economy But I do have to admit our economy was very strong in the early 2010’s We have very intelligent and resourceful people take Jet Blue, Ambev and Eduardo Saverin so if given the chance with a stable and reliable government we could become a powerhouse

If you're going to weigh the country's wealth with gdp per capita, Singapore, not Japan, is the richest country in Asia brTaiwan briefly exaggerated its per capita GDP due to favorable exchange rate defense and semiconductor exports, but its actual wages are far behind that of Korea and Japan

Hùng / Henry Trương
Brain drain is not the root cause of poverty because even those brains stay in their home countries, they couldn't do anythingbrThe root cause is multiculturalism making rich countries attract enormous amounts of brains for economy, enough to make them richer

The 9:20 mark of the video features the start of discussion about how a university degree in a developed country means proof of good language skills It depends on the language, and on the region within a country or territory that uses multiple languages in which such a degree holder chooses to reside It is after all within Canada one thing if a student visa holder chooses to study at an English-language post-secondary institution but quite another if he or she instead chooses to study at a French-language one Yes, two provinces (Quebec and New Brunswick) and all three territories (Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut) use French as an official language although in practice as of the 2016 census, Quebec was the only equivalent to an Australian state, most of whose residents had grown up speaking French as a mother tongue New Brunswick came second on percentage of residents with French as a mother tongue at just over 300 Ontario came second on the number of speakers, although that’s still represented under 5 of the local population Nunavut was the only equivalent to an Australian state to have featured under 1000 native speakers of French although Newfoundland had the lowest percentage of local residents with French as a mother tongue with just 06 Studying at a French-language post-secondary institution no doubt provides opportunities but speaking good English will Open up so many more doors That’s even with the threat of Quebec separating from Canada quite low particularly when compared to the 1990s when the separatist Parti Québécois last had a majority government
Comment from : David W

There are naturally some exceptions to this For instance, Indonesia is also an industrialising economy and has a sizeable enough population but have not dealt with the issue of brain drain as much as other countries

A factor that's not considered here is the positive though longer-term impact on the "drained" country brI'm Irish living in Australia but I suggest that two brain-drain factors lifted the Irish economy over the past 90 years; the first is the soft power generated by the sons, daughters, grandsons and granddaughters of the brains who fled to the US in the 19th century For example, the Ford Motor Corporation established a major factory in Cork, the county from which Henry Ford's father emigrated While it shut down in the 1980's it was a precursor to the wave of US corporations set up in Ireland from the 1950's to the present that transformed and economy from subsistence to advanced brThe second factor is the return of those who participate in the brain drain The Estonians, Latvians, Poles (especially), Czech's and all other eastern Europeans who moved to the advanced EU countries on accession in 2005, and who subsequently moved back bringing capital, knowledge, networks, etc, transformed their economies as assuredly as did the EU funds that assisted developmentbrThe world's economies are far more integrated than ever for two fundamental reasons technology and travel Perhaps the latter is underappreciated as we find it hard to compare the experiences of those to moved for the reasons stated in the video before ubiquitous cheap travel was available brPerhaps a natural follow-on study to this video would be the impact of returning immigrants and the influence of diasporas The Indian phenomenon is rightly being held up as a factor in India's increasing global soft power at the moment

1 In Germany tuition is free both for citizens and foreigners Sure, there are some standards to be met to make sure that an international student provides for themselves, but that is it This way, universities have no incentive to keep underperforming studentsbrbr2 When I was making my math PhD in Germany in late 00s, there were a lot of students from Colombia Right now they all came back home, getting pretty decently paid professor positions Not sure if it helped, but the idea seem to at least have been tried
