I lived in Venice, and I worked as a hotel manager Yes the kind of tourism that is coming now is certainly harming Venice It is not a city for mass tourismbrIt has lost the personality of a romantic city, too many and many rood personsbrRestaurants and bars are mostly Chinese The real venitians are gonebrToo many hotels, BB and apartmentsbrIn the 80 it was still the real Venice now not any more, I fled and changed city 😢 Comment from : GIAN CARLO PEGORARO |

I don't understand why more isn't being done to repair this treasure The ancients that built this city wouldn't just allow this to happen They would fix and overcome the problems brFor some reason all this generation seams to do is complain and collect revenue Maybe it needs to sink into the sea Comment from : Raff |

Here is few suggestions to save Venice: Ban cruise ships all together bringing tourists uncontrolled and also limit the amount of tourists coming into Venice annually, and make it pre-booking vacations in Venice like booking a visit to a museum such as Sistine Chapel does, limiting visitor number on a daily amount restrictions Also Venicians who are providing services to visiting tourists should be provided with accommodations, instead of forced to live and commuting from outside of the lagoon And limit the amount of Air BnBs and private apt rentals, to free accommodations for locals freedom to live in their city And above all stop famous Italian political corruption that makes a mess of everything! Comment from : Mustafa Caycik |
|
nice one! thanks DW! Comment from : Sirajuddin AM |

Cruiseships should just be completely banned from Venice and other popular cities brThese kind of tourists are like locusts, they bring nothing good at all, just trample all over the place and they even go back to eat on their ships, contributing nothing to the local economy Plus, these ships are an eyesore Let them go to other nice cities who are lacking other visitors, like Trieste or Valencia, just to name two random examplesbrIF tourists from cruiseships have to be allowed into Venice, make them pay at least €100/day/person That will make sure only those who REALLY want to see it, come Comment from : Jump NYC |

The gov't at all levels started this One would think they would've KNOWN the environmental risks long before 1000 years passed Someone should find out how much $$$ all levels of govts made, in kickbacks and in tax dollars from the housing, small businesses, and restaurants, and all other vendors who have had a piece of the tourism trade That's also why they look the other way with selling real estate to investors Their judicial system is all part of it for not stopping this This is going on worldwide right now, all part of their latest UN NWO agenda and govts efforts to lower their deficits They only want the rich owning real estate who have the $$ to maintain it or remodel it It's criminal what they are doing to billions of people worldwide Comment from : D Stew |

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)brLet the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon (Isaiah 55:7)brFor whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13)brThe LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit (Psalms 34:18) Comment from : Joey Miller |

2022: turns out venice is worse off and crumbling faster without tourists Comment from : t c |
|
I don’t see the appeal with venice, it’s really not that interesting looking, looks rather boring and I’d get sick of the water after 2 or 3 days cause it’s not like tropical island surrounded by white sand beaches and crystal clear water where you can really enjoy and relax, anyway tourism tends to ruin a lot of things so I can see why the locals aren’t happy and don’t like it Comment from : lovelyrosebw |

I’m here from the future, and let me tell you the Covid-19 pandemic, was the best thing to happen to Venice No more tourists and big cruise ships in the city’s waters I heard it was so great that during the lockdown, the city was so dead, that even Dolphins were swinging up the waterways Comment from : Johnny Flores |

In 2021 it's a much better place, calm, collected and unattended More like a ghost city somehow br The locals' prayers were answered when they prayed away the tourists because not only God answered them with the infamous miraculous COVID-19 which kept tourists away but the miracle also killed about 2/3 of its local population of old people br And we know, these areas were heavily hit and were hit more than twice and it might still be as God continues answering their prayersbr Even government officials were swept with its old population on that last farewell Bon voyage along with the shipsbr So u go there now for Xmas 2021, it's a ghost town!
