do they not know the course curriculum? I did a sign writing Course at Tafe (It's an aussie thing) and we only had to do a week (unpaid) of work experiencebrbrWe didn't have classes for that week, it was pretty simplebrbrHaving to do 3 months seems a bit excessivebrbrAt least they insisted you get paid Comment from : ithinkitmightbe |
I love when professors acted like thatwe are literally here trying to get higher paying jobswe are here to get jobs so yes our jobs DO take precedence over school Comment from : Kolonol1 |
Practical work is so important brbrAside from a social service year, I would love to have school projects at every school that are pretty much "work at least 3 months at a crappy, minimum wage job"🤣 As a society we would profit so much from this! If anyone had to experience that there wouldn't be as many Karens (m/f/d)🥳 Comment from : Kienchen K |

So you think you are special? Many people work full time jobs and go to school full time I went to school full time and worked both a full time job and a part time job It was hard, but I did it so that I would have a real career not just some job Your generation is way too soft Comment from : Mopar_ Dude |

In Germany if you make a apprenticeship(mostly 3 years), whether it is to be a hotel employee or a woodworker or a cook, you always have a half of the time school in your trade school and half of the time working in the job But always in supervision of your employer, that you don't just work but also learn in the job Comment from : M S |
Had a very very hard time with teachers like thatthey would grovel over students who had part times career related (which were always always ALWAYS unpaid) and snubbed ( to unethical extents at times) the others who didn't Comment from : jottamartins |

Most of my teachers were wonderful and very understanding how the world is today We don't have the luxury of working just part time and going to school (if working at all) One of my friends went to a different school than me for her hospitality degree and they required the internship to be seperate from your actual job (and it was for like 23 hours a week) She worked full time and went to school full time so she was literally unable to complete this class and just put it on hold I still don't know if she ever completed it because of that Comment from : Holly Duncan |
Where did you get your hospitality degree from ? Comment from : Crystal Unplugged |

So you need to get an education to get a job, but you need a job for the educationbrbrWhy not skip a step, and just get the job directly, without the education 🤔 Comment from : Frank Bouwens |
You don't need a job for Internship I currently I'm pretty sure that changed recently due to the pandemic thoughbrbrOn top of the internships though they require you get 250 open PREP hours as well which you can earn a variety of ways, but I predominantly got from a max of 100 work hours and volunteering opportunitiesbrbrI "volunteered" for so many conventions but a fair amount in Orlando pay as well! Comment from : Ana |
My first semester the person that was doing a "Work Study" either quit or could not be relied on Even though it was only my first semester my instructor asked if I would like to take it on So at the end of every day that I had school I collected all of the instructor's Chef jackets and washed them So I washed my lab coat and snuck laundry in so I dud not pay for laundry for a whole semester and never got caught Comment from : Lori Strout |

We were actually “highly discouraged” from working while in nursing school, despite needing a CNA license and practical experience prior to clinicals We were also told it would be “in our best interest” to not have children, get married, or make any major life changing decisions To be fair, it was a brutal couple of years, but not working wasn’t an option, at least for me Comment from : MMC |

I got a front office job as my first ever job (+ i am studying for something completely unrelated to hospitality) It was very strange to see people with full on hospitality education and working there for 6+ years still in a position that not only can be taken by a person straight out of high school but also pays peanuts 😖 (keep in mind, this was not a cheap hotel, it was a radisson blu hotel) Comment from : Nocmora |

I'm in high school, and we have a task worth 30 of our grade We HAVE to perform it, and it's after school Our teacher said to us, "There is NO REASON that you can't show up If you have a job, you HAVE to let your boss know that you will not be there" She told us that she was just preparing us for the real world Like, ma'am, my job IS the real world 😑 Comment from : Alexandrya Holmes |
I was blessed not to have any profs like that, but my friend did She had to work to support herself, and this teacher knew this This teacher expected her to come to multiple events and extracurricular activities surrounding her one subject without giving any extra credit She tried to say, "this time should be more important to you than it is to me" My bestie responded, "only one of us is getting paid to be here I have rent and I need to eat" Comment from : Made this to comment |

I was an environmental science, major, and I had to get an internship for my major Sidenote, though, I didn’t realize it had to be a research position 😅 I was scrambling to get anything paid, so I took a paid position making media (agar and buffers mostly) in a wet lab A lot of research is unpaid, and I didn’t have time to apply to my schools program that would pay you a couple thousand dollars for unpaid internships Mentor of mine and also told me not to take unpaid internships because you’re basically not on the books, and it’s questionable if anything happens to you on the job I do kind of wish I had had a chance to do a research internship 😕 oh well, at least I can say that I have formulated 😊 Comment from : Tea laBlu |

Well look on the bright side at least this was only something that you had to do for the experience in a class Some of us have to work two jobs the entire time we're going through college just to keep down the student debt we'll inevitably be swallowed by 🤣 Comment from : Flumyxx Blox |

Average kid, whose been working the front desk at her family's motel since she was 15 years old, goes professors? What do professors have to do with this job? Mother, Father, Aunt, and Uncle told me what to do and I did it correctly or I got walloped brAverage hostess: Professors? What professors? Cousin Katherine told me to seat people as tables became available You need a college professor to instruct you in that? brGee whiz, how on Earth have all these sole proprietor establishments survived without Hospitality Degree graduates? Comment from : David Hoffman |
Where I live, in order to graduate you need 150 hours of community service related to your career of choice It's mostly paperwork but it gives the person experience regardless! :) Comment from : starlight |

In England, if yr doing the Nursing Degree, u do similar but They call them Placements 2 or 3 a year/over 3 years In hospitals, nursing home etc Unpaid tho Except when my Mum had her final placement in March 2020,the NHS needed as many people possible due to covid & Cause my mum's year were close to qualifying, they pretty much knew everything they should by 25 years, So they decided to use them to but cause of the risk, they were paid for this placement It was to avoid a lawsuit if they caught covidbrMy Mum started her nursing degree when she was 47 years old In case anyone wondered Comment from : XxCrazyTinkxX |

I go to community college for technical theater We have 2 classes where the class is just working on the shows for that semester and another where we get a job outside of school, similar to you Except only a few professors teach the entire degree (see description below because it took too much room to type here) and they’re all awesome and very understanding Late assignments are always allowed and once my professor let me turn something in for half credit despite a quarter of it being done because I’m depressed af and not only her but really every professor I’ve come across at the community college (meaning including the couple classes I’ve taken that aren’t degree specific, whether it be for Gen Ed or for fun) understand that we’re just there to learn and get a degree and passing is a very vital step to getting that degree Also many students are on financial aid which kinda relies on them having good grades brbrbrExplanation on my teachers I decided to put here because it really interrupted the flow of the paragraph:brI really just have one professor for most of my degree-specific classes because it’s split into two tracks and there’s only three main professors: one for set and media, one for costumes/hair/makeup, and one who only teaches image management and stage management, the latter of which isn’t part of any of the degrees but is still related to the field so it’s kinda just take it if you want He is also one of the acting teachers, but acting is its own degree We also have several people who aren’t technically professors for the degree but do work in the theater and work as mentors for those 2 classes where we work on shows, and my mentor is actually going to be teaching a scenic painting class this summer so I’m pretty excited for that :) Comment from : Nol |
