I traveled to Mindanao, exactly in President Roxas North Cotabato and I was there for a month in June, with my little daughter, to introduce her to my Filipina Girfriend I found the place very peaceful and very safe However, having learned of the bombings in the buses, I preferred to rent a car to travel from Davao to Roxas The family also has a house in the mountains near Mount Apo, and there are Communist Rebels there, but they are on good terms with the locals There was a firefight some year ago with the Police, and Abu Sayyaf planted a bomb in the Pres Roxas police station 2 years ago I think the risks in Roxas are low and we decided to take this trip However I would not go to Islamic areas or islands

I visited Philippines as a kid back in 2006, 2007, and 2008, but only in Luzon and Visayas I remember asking my mom if we should visit Mindanao and she said no Now I know why

When I was in Mindanao half of the women there were Abu Sayyaf sympathizers or supporters The other half of the women there had TB So to avoid getting kidnapped I only dated the ones that coughed

So, as long as you stay north of southern Mindanao, it should be fine I've been on vacations in Mindanao cdo, siargao, and Dahilyan adventure parks I never felt threatened However, that's usually how it is until it's not Just try to blend in, which is difficult for me as I'm white green eyes and 6 feet tall But don't wear flashy clothes or jewelry This is not the place for those things

It is still much more dangerous here in Australia The youth crime has hit crisis point I would not even let the kids out the front of the house with gates all closed unsupervised I would say the most dangerous place in the Philippines would be Jolo, sulu & areas of Palawan including the Sulu sea Just read the history of the area

I spend most of my time in the Philippines traveling between Davao, Tagum and New Bataan After 3 trips in a year I have not run into anything I would consider dangerous so for those of you worried about the area near Davao my experience around there has been fine I have not gone west or south of Davao city so I have no idea how those areas are

It may be worth pointing out, 2 Canadians and one German, were beheaded after being kidnapped in 2 different incidents in Jolo in the very far south of Mindanao, by the Abu Sayaf, back in 2016

I have been living for around 8 years in the Philippines, 2 years in Cebu and the rest of the time in Mindanao I have a house in Davao occidental They say that the mountains surrounding my place are a terrorist highway So I avoid trekking too high up in that area brI have visited North Cotabato on several occasions, Earthquakes being the greatest danger there, in my opinion My next place to visit these days will be General Santos city, but of course I know the risks involved It is very sad that many areas are a no go zone in this beautiful nation But there are plenty of great and safe areas, so just come on over here to Mindanao guys and girls Central and Eastern parts are very safe
