These tours are so very worthwhile As to Stonehenge, I have many questions that probably cannot be answered It is so good that the government agency or department that administers these sites have kept development far from the stones themselves so that their dramatic location is not spoiled Great tour Sinead! Here's my theory about the trilithons and archaeo- astronomy What if the ancient priest astronomers built the trilithons so that they could stand on them as elevated observational platforms? All you need are basic ladders to get up therebrHas anyone considered this as a possibility? What could you see from the top of the trilithons? What alignments are possible across Salisbury Plain and Wiltshire from up there? Comment from : Captain Sensible, Jr |

bVery little known FACT!/bbrbrIn what is now the car park at Stonehenge there are three places marked with white circles on the floor all in a row (Using road marking paint) these appear to have no significance to Stonehenge and just seem to be errors in marking out the car park BUT they are extremely significant, these three circles mark the positions of 3 prehistoric post holes that were excavated by archeologists and after carbon dating of materials found in the post holes they were found to have predated the rest of the Stonehenge site (Before there was the Ditch "Henge" and before the stones were errected) by several thousand years (Approx 10,000 BC)brbrThe diameter of each white circle represents the diameter of the post hole so you will see they are extremely formidable in size (Not simply post holes from a fence or barricade)brbrThis is a feature that escapes the attention of nearly all tourists (And even Stonehenge site staff) but whatever these post holes were for (And there is great speculation as they were HUGE not just garden post holes but the size of something akin to a Native American Totum Pole carved from a huge tree trunk) was probably what marked this place as somewhere sacred and is why Stonehenge was later built therebrbrAlthough these post hole markers are not very remarkable in their appearance on the car park, I urge anybody who goes to visit Stonehenge to seek them out because these markers represent the original place where humans first gave this place an importance and significance that lead to everything that is there nowbrbrThe best part is because these are on the car park and little known, there is no fee to visit them (Except parking fees) Comment from : Aelthric Baddaboom |
|
