That guy’s history of the Garifuna people is horrible We landed off the island of Saint Vincent After years of war with the British we were banished and left for dead we migrated to Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala A large population landed in Dangriga Belize on the 19th of November, which we still celebrate till this day Long story short 💛🖤🤍

we have just in the atlantic or caribbean coast of our beautiful country, Guatemala, some of those dishes, like, the "tapado" seafood broth, coconut bread, rice and beans with fish (with coconut milk), delicious !!!!

Ive been to Izabal (Morales, Rio Dulce, Golfete and Puerto Barrios) but need to go to Livingston some day The food and drinks there are awesome, very laid back culture and great music I heard reggae there the first time in the late 70s and they played mostly natural organic instruments it was amazing Love Izabal department!

I love Mark weins videos but as a Garifuna woman I am extremely disappointed about the information about the Garinagu in this video The Garinagu were never enslaved Our heritage is a mixture of African, Awarak and Carib people Not Quechi Maya like the guide suggests We were Garifuna before we encountered the natives in Central America We weren't lost people on a boat to nowhere We were inhabitants of the island of St Vincent and when the colonizers came they had us exiled to Balliceaux Island at Honduras and left there to die Our resilience made us move to the coasts of Guatemala and Belize for peace and stability The food shown here is not traditionally made nor is traditional to the Garinagu Unfortunately our brothers and sisters in Guatemala have lost much of their traditions and language and that reflects in the adaption of other cultural dishes mixed with our own like the hudut and Tapou seen here The tour guide wasn't even accurate in his assessment of the Maya and their relationship to the Cacao I wish that Mark would have done further research into this before he posted this video
