You need to understand that the demand of gorkhaland is just to get a state within India so that the Indian gorkhas can be acknowledged as Indians and not nepalis India has signed the treaty of peace and friendship with nepal which allows nepal citizens to reside in India and get certain rights that only Indian citizens can avail, examples can be like land rights They will not be deemed as illegal immigrants This has led to dilution of citizenship for Indian gorkhas of Darjeeling who are called Nepalis and not Indians This is the identity crisis that is talked about It's not about racism or development Implementation of Bengali language was just a trigger for the agitation in 2017 The demand for gorkhaland is more than 100 years old Chicken's neck that we know this day, the siliguri corridor has been overshadowed by illegal Bangladeshi immigrants who are allowed entry for raising vote banks and the gorkhas have become minority in their own lands You can see these in other north eastern states as well The state government are using such tactics to quash the demand for gorkhaland forever Use of brute force by the state government in 2017 was unjust I believe that choosing a proper leader and having peaceful and meaning dialogue with the state government and the Indian government will lead to a better solution I am a gorkha of Darjeeling but honestly I don't want a state Just me being acknowledged by other indians as a fellow Indian would be more than enough for me Jai hind Comment from : itachi uchiha
