My supposition, Kailasha temple was accidently built by lost wax casting method Flowing molten lava from erupted volcano poured into Laksha mould (created due to burial of temple made of wood and laksha into sand) The peoples of the town buried the kailasha temple (made from wood and laksha) with sand to save it from destruction caused by lava which created laksha mould Molten lava evaporates laksha and taking place of laksha mould and cooling of lava when volcano silenced forms a monolithic kailasha temple once sand is removed Lakshagriha(house made from wood coated with lacca) is mentioned in Mahabharat
