All these reports about San Francisco being an unsafe, chaotic, zombieland are hugely exaggerated by right-wing media purposely focusing on few exceptional areas of the city (with a clear agenda to somehow prove that the government's left-wing policies are to blame, newsflash, they aren't) I live close to San Francisco and visit often with my family and my 6 year-old daughter who safely rides down the streets with her scooter and never felt in danger True, if you park your car anywhere in the city you'll likely get a broken window, but that's easy to avoid by walking (it's a very walkable city) and using public transportation like a local

I'm from Detroit I lived there as a child during the 70s and 80s and watched the city decline over the course of my childhood I now live in San Francisco and have been here most of my adult life I agree that SF is now experiencing a rapid decline, however, I do not agree with the direct comparison of the two cities The only commonality is wealthy, and in Detroit's case, mostly white, people destroying both cities, just for different reasonsbrbrIn Detroit, it was purely racism The "white flight" of 70s-80s Detroit was a well-known phenomenon, where all the white people left the city and moved to the suburbs and no white-owned businesses would dare try to start up in Detroit because of it From the point of view of the white power base, the city, and black people in particular, needed to be punished for the race riots of the late 60sbrbrSan Francisco, on the other hand, is being destroyed by the wealthy power base due to classism There are many examples of this but this video seems to only take from published sources that express what the power base wants the world to hear (It's this person's fault, or it's that policy's fault) It's really just about the fears that wealthy people have about the poor and keeping the city as exclusive and high-priced as possiblebrbrI admit, it is more complicated than a simple explanation and there are many, many issues in both cities I could go on and on about but I doubt many will read this far so I'll stop here Suffice to say that SF is a mess that could be fixed but would require a significant change in socio-political and cultural attitudes in both SF and the US in general SF will survive--there's just too much money invested here and the wealthy still want to live here--but it will likely become more and more draconian as the wealthy try more extreme measures to control, manipulate, and punish the poorbrbrAnd, by the way, despite all it's problems, it is still the most beautiful city in the US I've been all across this county, having visited at least 30 of the 50 states and no city I've seen is quite as beautiful as SF What's happening here is truly a shame

I see San Francisco’s future as being a giant “Town and Gown” like Boston Universities don’t move like companies do The Bay Area has two world class universities with the highest ranked non Ivy League university west of the Mississippi River in Stanford University and the #1 public university in the United States in UC Berkeley Most town and gowns are centered around one school with an emphasis on sports except Boston so this will be refreshing

I had family visiting from UK SF was on their bucket list I told them that it would be costly and a BIG disappointment They still wanted to go and see They felt that as a former Calfornia resident and someone who worked and lived in the Bay, I was being overly critical Upon their return, they were astonished how bad things were are that people were just allowing things to happen and going with what was their norm They also went to LA and again were astonished how bad the US has become Their exploratory trip was so eye-opening, and they said they would never move to CA and couldn't believe how bad things were in SF Their finally thoughts were aligned with mine, which is that SF is now just a postcard city It only looks good from afar and is actually dangerous and declining at a faster rate than any other major city It's a shame that the state of CA isn't interested in keeping the state safe or attractive The only good things left in the state are the weather, ocean, and some of its natural beauty I see why people are leaving SF at such an alarming rate
