I have just returned from Beirut, Batroun, and Tripoli and totally agree with your superlatives of this diminutive but historically rich country! the Lebanese people are invariably friendly and helpful and I found traveling around totally safe Batroun is a hidden gem with wine bars, limestone guest apartments overlooking plazas, great food, all of which are easily found in this small town Be sure to try the exquisite lemonade at Hilmi's!
