After watching this video, all I can say is that the NYC government doesn't really try to make the city friendly to visitors They allow the infrastructure to be inconvenient and the streets dirty Those who visited NYC probably wouldn't want to go back again because of the reasons mentioned in the video Comment from : Brian C |

John is the best and we used his videos and tips for a wonderful trip earlier this month If I would add anything it would be to plan your airport ride at both ends of your trip We got very comfortable using the subway (thanks John!) and felt we could manage to get back to JFK cheap and fast However, weekend rail maintenance found us exiting the subway and walking to a bus that took us to the AirTrain The transit staff was friendly and we didn’t get lost but after a week in NYC, I wish I would have used Revel, Lyft or a cab Comment from : Dan Daechsel |

Just don’t go there It isn’t worth it Grew up there, spent 20 years in that place, it has gone so far downhill in the past 4 years Crime, feces, cost of living, taxes, unfriendly business climate, poor city planning People think of all the tourist traps when they think of New York City They aren’t worth it The subways aren’t worth it If you are a tourist and you look like a tourist, somebody is already trying to rip you off you just aren’t aware of it yet brbrIf you come to New York City as a tourist and want a genuine experience, don’t look for places where things cost more than $60 per person Just don’t You can absolutely get a very good meal for $10/person, but you will have to find these places and they make some of the best food because of the high quality of the tap water Make sure that the $99 pizza is actually $99 What I mean is, there’s a whole bunch of places that aggressively advertise the cost of their pizza Don’t go there You want to go to the places that don’t aggressively advertise the price, because a cheap price means cheap quality But a deli or small takeout place that sells $99 pizza, that’s the place to go to Speaking of delis, NYC is famous for them Don’t go to Katz’ deli to spend $50 on a club sandwich Any deli will do, the portions are huge and the price is yes brToday, the city has gotten more dangerous, and you should keep your head on a swivel at all times, don’t take your bags with you, know where you are going and plan out the route before you leave your hotel-don’t be looking around not knowing what to do on the streets of Manhattan as you will get approached by people who want to scam or rob you Remember, the entire city is setup in a grid The only exception to this rule is Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan’s financial district below 14St, these have lots of old colonial streets that wind up and down as well as alleys Be aware and if you decide to go to that place which I call the 8th circle of Hell Good luck Comment from : Belisarius Plebicus |
Also be aware of all the scam shops selling iPhones and when you buy food make sure you can see where its cooked (there are a lot of hygiene issues) Oh and get yourself some very good ear plugs, people in the US don't talk they shout its constant noise all the time Tip for this tip for that its tip tip tip and can really wear you and your pocket down its expected irrespective of whether you get good or bad service The best part about NY is leaving and getting home for some peace and quiet Comment from : RaspberryPI Ploy |

What most guides are missing, is that by far the best and most flexible way to use the subway are the contactless tap options with Apple/Google Pay or a credit card There is a weekly limit of 12 rides you have to pay (afterwards all rides with the same card are free!) and transfers are free, so it can‘t get any more expensive than the weekly pass but you don‘t have to pay for anything you might not use If you have an iPhone or Apple Watch you can even enable the express transit option so you can just hold your watch or phone at the gate and don’t even have to double press for Apple Pay! Even as a seasoned NYC traveller I always watch these videos cause I learn something new like the turnstile tip Had no idea those could lock up if you accidentally go the wrong way :O Also there are some subway stops that only have those tall ones to enter and yeah not fun trying to enter those with luggagebrPlaybill's website also has a breakdown on what shows (both Broadway and Off-Broadway) on specific shows' rush and lottery policies The only issue with digital rush is more popular shows sell out ASAP (like &Juliet) I personally like shows with in-person where you can get there early and stand around Also certain companies have discounts if you are under 40 or 35 or if you are a student Wicked is the only show I can recall that does military and veteran discounted tickets brGo to the TKTS booth up near Lincoln Center Less crowded and it's indoors Comment from : clowchan |

Pro tip: It's really not worth taking a bus (or cab) cross-town from 23rd to 59th -- the exception being 14th St, because, no public cars -- unless the weather is too unpleasant for you In Mid-Town, walking or biking is going to be the faster option Comment from : Jeffrey Caplin |

i don't know if you've mentioned this in any of your other videos, but the very first mistake i made when i first got off of the plane was to get in a cab that didn't have a fare box i ended up paying way more than i probably should have because someone in the cab in the front seat(not the driver) told me the fare would be almost ninety dollars - just as they were dropping me off somewhere i didn't want to go when i got in the cab i told them where i wanted to go and they convinced me they knew a better place to stay they pretended to talk to someone on the phone and told them to expect my arrival when i got out of the cab - without my ninety dollars - there was nothing like what he said it would be i felt completely lost since it was my first time - and last time in NYC and that was just the beginning of my long horror story i came back home three days before i'd planned i had to get out of there i said i would never go back and i haven't so whenever i talk to people who go to New York, i tell them be sure the taxi has a fare box before you get in actually, first i advise them to not go at all Comment from : JETT |
