I'm going to let everyone in on a little secret Tacoma is a city about 30-40 miles south of Seattle and has the second most museums per capita behind Washington DC in the US It also has the second largest urban park behind Central Park in the US It's a relatively cheaper and smaller city compared to Seattle The main Chihuly glass museum is located in downtown Tacoma, too

Wonderful review It’s nice to see the city from a visitors perspective I never lived in Seattle but worked there for a few years commuting back and forth just a town outside of Seattle I often would hang out in Seattle with coworkers or friends who lived in the city so I almost felt like I kind of lived there, lol Personally, Seattle is one of my fav cities Things are getting overpriced and crowded now since so many people are moving in the area and there’s so much development going on but I would like to add that what I really admire about Seattle as a city is the overall feeling of safety and the cleanliness (except the gum wall 😂)

You will absolutely see people smoking weed in the street Everywhere Whats worse is, depending on the location and time of day you might see people using needles Seattle is deep in a heroin epidemic Open air drug sales and drug use on 3rd, around Pike Place Market and up on Capitol Hill Also, never in my 39 years of living in Seattle have I heard Ivars pronounced "Eye Vars"

The Seattle Freeze doesn't exist I don't know where this myth started, but try being from the Great Lakes region, like I am, and that is a joke Homelessness here is no joke, though EVERYONE on the streets is multiple diagosedmentally ill and addicted (Thanks Reagonomics) But this issue is everywhere in the States right nowbut the west coast is hit particularly hard because we have mild weather and better social systems than other republican states So people end up here and I don't blame them But Seattle rocks! I love it and it is my heart home I work in the Pike Market and my kid went to school there and grew up there and a bunch of my friends have stalls there and the neighborhoods are alive If you are strapped for cash, buy you r food in the ID and go to happy hour My friends and I never go out for dinner, we ALWAYS do happy hour Seattle is a happy hour town and a foodie town And the music scene is great and the art scene1st THursday of every month is the Art Walk even the SAM is free

You don't need to live in Seattle to enjoy whatever good things it has to offer (although not that much as advertised) The city is filled with homeless encampments, drug addicts, and trash Coffee and food isn't all that either for the expensive price point Better off to live in a much nicer and better city like Bellevue and from there make day trips to Seattle as needed

Seattle is so overrated and over hyped Although the city is beautiful asthetically, it's filled with druggies, homelessness, trash, and crime that the city does very little about Not to mention it's expensive and the streets are full of steep hills Food and coffee isn't that good either You also feel like you always have to watch your back and run for your life when walking outside Each major city has it's issues but for the effort (and money in most cases) needed to try to "enjoy" Seattle, it's just not worth it Never wanted to get out of a city so bad Don't get me wrong, Washington State is a fun and exciting place to be in, just not Seattle Had more fun in Bellevue, Leavenworth, Bainbridge, and the national parks

The don'ts of the pacific northwestbr1 DON'T complain about the rain Clouds and rain are just part of pacific northwest culture It's going to be 40-50f and raining a lot of the year It's not hard rain, you can get away with just a hoodie It's also not actually cold if you think 40-50f is cold, you are going to die in a place like the midwest where it truly is coldbr2 DON'T use an umbrella, especially if you're in Portland where it's often times windy People here just don't use them If you're using an umbrella people will automatically know you're either a tourist or from california and trust me, you don't want people thinking you're californian here

I always tell this story to explain weather in Washington in high school I played in a football game and it went from 50 and sunny at kickoff, to raining during the 2nd and at half, coming out of half it snowed the entire 3rd and 4th plus hail during the walk to bus to go home 2 hours, 4 different conditions and about a 10 degree difference between start and finish I would recommend late spring and summer weather is why more consistent and not a high chance of rain If you are really looking at doing a trip to Seattle I recommend instead stay in the Port Townsend area it's only a hour to two hour drive but you can split between the town itself, Seattle and even Victoria

I spent a week in Seattle about 3 years ago - maybe I just didn't go to the right parts of town, but I didn't notice too many homeless people out there, at least no more than Ann Arbor where I live and work Though part of that trip we spent a weekend in Portland, which had probably had the worst homeless population of any city I've been to

It was an AWESOME city to visit & live in years ago but now it is a $HITHOLE!!!!! Moved away and never looked back When the police tell you it's not safe and they wouldn't take their family there, it says a lot KOMO News did a documentary about it so search it out and watch The homeless, the drug addicts, the mentally ill on the streets, used needles, feces everywhere and crime have just ruined the city Went back to visit friends not to long ago, we were eating at a nice restaurant and folks dealing drugs in front, some mentally ill guy just drops his pants and defecates right in front of the windows with all to see So, so, so sad to see what it turned into

Seattle was a VERY small town before grunge and the tech boom, so that mentality still holds True natives, those who were here pre-1992, are kind of an elite group who aren't impressed by yet another transplant clogging the roads and not knowing the culture They will accept you, but only if you know someone already and are a person who has something to offer It may seem snobbish but who really lets randoms into their circle anyway?

Just got back from Seattle a few weeks ago I have been there several times but it was the first time my wife has ever gone Not only did we have a great time, but she really loved Seattle (and she is not a big city type person) We didn't have any issues outside the cost of parking downtown Surprisingly, we had great traffic patterns as well (I know how bad it can get) Lots of people going on about homeless/drug users/etc I know it is an issue, but, I didn't feel like I saw THAT much of it around I've seen much worse Have you guys been to San Francisco lately? Heck, even Portland has become overrun with these issues in it's downtown core Seattle honestly didn't feel that bad to me In fact, the wife commented on how clean the city was We really loved Seattle

The tent cities, beggars and drug addicts are nicer than most Places , The stuff they put in their Space Needles is Pretty Strong $12 or $15 will get you a Syringe full Coffee shops are Great , You do not need an umbrella unless you want to Look like a Tourist Roxbury is where the real vibe and coolness of seattle is, Please Talk to the Homeless they are the Best :) QC

I'm a Texan who married a Washingtonian and moved to Tacoma and some things I've noticed is when you to say a 7-11 which there are still a few up here or Walmart you will be charged for the grocery bags 5 cents up to 15 cents per bag if you want a good donut go to legendary donuts they're a little pricier than most donut shops but these ain't your grandma's donuts the fat Albert is an enormous chocolate donut covered in m&Ms or a smores also going down the streets you get amazing views of Mt Rainier also coffee is everywhere like grocery stores will even have vending machines that Serv cups of hot coffee though one of Tacoma's down sides is there is a paper factory so it gives Tacoma a smell it's known as "The aroma of Tacoma" when you go to a store that sells alcohol the alcohol bottles are typically in a locked case the exception on that may be Costco they don't always lock it taxes on items out here are like 10 cents per dollar most of the time gas is about 360+ for gas you can get Arco at about 299 a gallon

Seattle is one of my favorite places in the world I have been traveling there my whole life The prices are high, but you can find some really great deals at Pike’s I always stop for a bouquet of flowers and some great fresh fruit Also, for people that may only be going there once, the Space Needle is a great thing to do Just like the Eiffel Tower, you have to do it once I’ve been up a few times - even though I’m scared to death of heights The food is fantastic everywhere, but the local small restaurants are the best There is a great Greek fast food place across from Pike’s I’m so lucky that my son now lives in the area so I get to visit often now! Oh also, there is a lot of seafood, but no matter what kind of diet you eat, you will find great places that cater to you Vegetarians, vegans, gluten free, paleo, whatever you need, there are plenty of options Museum of Pop is my favorite, but don’t forget all the other things there too The aquarium is great, I love a cruise of the sound, and there are city passes that are very reasonably priced if you want to take in several sites It’s a gorgeous city and the surrounding areas are so green and lush all year round In all my visits there, less than half the days have been rainy 😊
