San Miguel de Allende is so overated, US expats are ruining San Miguel de Allende They are making this once humble town into a snobby dollar charging Beverly Hills My wife and I were sooooooo dissapointed that everything there is expensive that locals can't even afford taking there kids for a once affordable ice cream or meal Most restaurants charge you in dollars And I'm not blowing hot air off my rear Local street vendors are extinct, the city Mayor had to please the expats and got rid of most food street vendors surrounding the main plaza in front of the gothic church Therefore you have no choice than to consume the local shops and pay high prices for regular cheap food or items They should get rid of the city mayor and the governor of Guanajuato for allowing american real state agencys to operated indiscriminately In Mexico they call them VENDE PATRIAS All they care is to fill there pockets with money and screw the humble local residents by forcing them to sell after they can no longer afford to pay property taxes So, do yourself a favor Skip this town unless you feal like going into a Disneyland Colonial Mexican theme Park with not so friendly retired and snobby Americans living there O'h by the way, we were told by a local policeman that they get daily complains from old American farts living there about the noise and music playing loud after 8pm Duhhhhhhh, hello! We visited SMA immediately after Guanajuato and decided that we preferred Guanajuato It seemed more laid back with a younger, student vibe SMA seemed to be overrun with snooty tourists when we were there in March of 2018 - all congratulating themselves for visiting a colonial town rather than a beach resort Perhaps related - I found the locals to be less friendly than in most other Mexican towns However, you have encouraged me to take a second look - and I have marked all your recommendations on my map app Thanks! Beautiful San Miguel! I used to go for vacations there since kid, my family had a time share in the "Hotel Posada La Ermita", which I LOVE IT!, is located in the top and the view is AMAZING!
