I’m from a suburb of Rochester and after living in Columbus, Ohio (Westerville) for twenty years, we just moved back to Rochester Although, we’re is a suburb called Spencerport, not the city It is sad that the city is struggling, but I think things will get better, since the the city is offering a bonus to remote workers who move here and (despite the snow) the weather is fabulous for three seasons and as the rest of the country bakes they might not mind the winters😀 Comment from : Karin Shah |

Not all of Ulster County is downs state The Northern part of the county is upstate by every measurable factor End of Algonquin territory, start of Iroquois territory, It's the Catskills & the end of the Allegheny plateau, it where the Catskills meet the river & Berkshires come furthest West It's Above 42*N (Dutch reference) above Penn & West of Mass & the Berkshires, (East of Canada & West of Russia), it was founded by settlers of Fort Orange (Albany), it was defended by Fort Orange, Rensselaer, Schenectedy etc Too cold for most of the lizards (yes NYS has lizards) Comment from : blackbarnz |

As a native of the Adirondack/Lake Champlain region, I have several comments Adding to Albany's appeal is its relative proximity (no more than a half day's drive) to three major metro areas: NYC (about 150 miles to the south), Boston (about 170 miles to the east) and Montreal (about 225 miles to the north) It's also only about 30 miles south of Saratoga, which is an appealing summer vacation area Albany also is within relatively easy driving distance from ski resorts in southern Vermont (eg, Killington and Stratton) and about 25 hours from Whiteface Mountain (near Lake Placid) in NY Next, a little known fact: Hamilton County, in the heart of the Adirondacks, has the lowest population density of any county east of the Mississippi It has all of about 5,100 residents in an area almost as large as the state of Delaware The comment about Utica "struggling a little economically" is an understatement An industrial center from the days of the Erie Canal, it has been reeling from the closure of many factories (silverware and cutlery principal among them) Couple that with the closure of the Griffiss Air Force Base in nearby Rome several years ago and it's been one depressed (and depressing) area Finally, I am pleased that Buffalo is making a comeback As property values in other areas of the country become increasingly unaffordable, I suspect more people will consider the Buffalo area as a place to live Comment from : allegro brio |

I know that it has a very low population, but I feel like including Corning, as the museum is a huge tourist attraction for city dwellers and upstate’s alike, and it serves as an example of how Elmira could’ve been had they recovered from the great flood May also be a good example of a pseudo company town Comment from : Dexterr |

Rather poor observation to foreground Rochester's small but awful inner city and leave out the University of Rochester and RIT, two of the best schools in the country, the world-class Eastman School of Music and Rochester Philharmonic, the Jazz Festival, and all the other high-class cultural stuff which is far cheaper and more accessible than culture in NYC and DC--and frankly, is just as good Rochester's quality is almost entirely diffused into the suburbs and surrounding countryside--including really great public schools Take a deeper look than a quickie drive through the central rotten part Comment from : John Doe |

I live in Rochester, upstate New York I live here all my life and I disagree with some of the things you said There are so much to do but most often underrated We have good education (eg, U of R, RIT), advanced healthcare, lot of history But, I have to agree that crime rate and poverty are big issues But again it’s not as bad as some cities like Detroit Do you know that a lot of history begun here in Rochester? I love your channel and I watch a lot of your videos But this one makes me really upset, lot of biases… Comment from : Soe Win |

Being from the northern Catskill's the city hasn't forgotten about us We're the city's playground Hiking, hunting, swimming, mountain biking and festivals and of course skiing at Hunter, Windham, Plattekill and Bellaire Late September and early October brings the leaf-peepers There's lots of natural beauty in the Catskills but if you want to shop for more than just the essentials you'll have to travel an hour in any direction NYC gets their water from the Catskill Watershed which consists of six reservoirs scattered throughout the region Many small towns were sacrificed to build those reservoirs When I was younger dairy was a major industry here Now the farms have been bought up, most by the New York City Water Supply, and some by down staters to build second homes Comment from : Granny Deen |

It's now the start of 2022 I've been a City and LI resident for most of my life However my wife studied nursing at D'Youville College and so kept in touch with classmates in upstate NY We visited Buffalo and the St Lawrence areas frequently While she would hang out with her girlfriends, I would go out exploring As such I got to take the free tour of Buffalo City Hall, wander Tifft Preserve, take a boat ride and stroll along the Erie Canal, sail on the Miss Buffalo, walk under Peace Bridge, explore the Buffalo Naval Park, get cactus barbs stuck to me in the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens cross the river to watch the Siege of Fort Erie, see the falls from both sides, tour Fort Niagara, take the Uncle Sam's 1000 Island boat, ride, tour Singer Island , and tour Boldt Castle Of course I consider anything above Westchester County "upstate" LOL Yes Upstate NY is beautiful And I enjoyed being a tourist in my own state As a fellow YouTuber I posted many of these explorations I am not monetized and my audience is nowhere near yours, but for me I enjoyed the number of views I got of my tour of Singer Island I made sure to add a "like" to this video Comment from : Chris Lauterbach |

I grew up in Niagara Falls, back when heavy industrial was more important than tourism brbrBut after college and the Army I moved to NYC It seems to me that “upstate” starts closer to NYC Westchester and Rockland counties are suburbs, but the next counties up seem like country, like most of the rest of the state Comment from : Robert Ewalt |
Politics screw that stayed up all the taxes, back in the sixties and seventies they wanted makes upstate New York separate state from the Tri-County area down around New York City New York City father dragged the rest of the state down, no the shoe's on the other foot after they ruined the rest of the state New York City I'll probably want to be a separate state ‼️ Comment from : William Swan |

We lived in Seattle for years trying to save but with the cost of living we could never even dream of owning a home we moved about 6 months ago to Rochester NY and bought our first home it says there is a lot of crime here but our neighborhood which is considered a "hood" has but nothing but pleasant, I worry about my kids being able to find partners or even friends one day as there is very slim pickins as in there is barely anyone here really so it's a small pond but I see Rochester starting to change already they have been cleaning up old buildings and repurposing and I think there is only one way to go and that is up from here Comment from : Kitty Estes |

I lived in Syracuse NY for over 35 years I lived in Rochester NY for 18 years As far as nicer, Syracuse has never ever been as nice as Rochester Syracuse is in the middle of nowhere there is very little of anything connected to Syracuse for example wine country is a good hour ride down interstate 90 west In the 70s through the early 90s Syracuse was pretty ok but after the stores left downtown, that was it The Carousel Mall ( now called destiny USA ) has a lot of empty spaces Rochester has 2 very nice Malls, Greece ridge mall and the beautiful Eastview mall also Rochester has its own Amusement Park called Sea Breeze and the Awesome Strong Museum of Play Rochester sits basically in the Heart of wine country Crime is mostly in the inner city 90 percent however Syracuse is so small that if you live In The City, you will most likely see some action Buffalo NY is a Big beautiful city that gets a lot of SNOW from the lakes right now they just got 77 inches However if you are going to move there you will enjoy yourself a lot Western New York ( Buffalo and Rochester) have TONS of family stuff to do Central New York ( Syracuse) not so much Comment from : shaphat yahawadah |

Another fun fact: Upstate NY has only 6-odd million people (by this video’s reckoning), but 75 of that population lives within 25 miles of the Erie Canal… which means that Upstate NY has some very empty quarters, and not just in the Adirondacks either Comment from : E Edgerton |
