I live in Malaysia and I feel like quite a bit of this is exaggerated Yes the food is good, but after a while can be a bit samey (not to mention that a lot of food here is really overhyped, especially in penang which is pretty much the same but overpriced compared to the rest of the country) The nature here is a complete joke considering how much of the forest and amazing habitats are being destroyed for palm oil, durian, rubber and other wood products Not to mention that most of it's iconic species are on the brink of extinction or already extinct Even if you wanted to go into pristine forests and see any animals you now have to go in really large groups and pay huge amounts of money or not at all because most forests are off limits to the normal person/tourists Those forests are also getting decimated from logging which is a big reason why people are not allowed to go inbrbrRubbish disposal in the country is almost non-existent and most beaches here are littered with rubbish because a large proportion of Malaysians don't care about the environment and dump their rubbish anywhere or even throw it out of the car Trash build-up and blockages in KL sewers is actually such a huge problem that it routinely causes flooding around the city, seriously impacting people's lives there Maintenance is a massive issue as well, not just infrastructure but of private buildings and you will find that many things don't work because the owner wanted to save money or just couldn't be botheredbrbrFriendliness here is incredibly superficial and although people are nice, it's incredibly difficult to make genuine relationships with locals I speak fluent malay and have been living here a while and I still get treated as if I know nothing about the country and like an outsider Another thing is that people here are not very forthcoming with information, usually reluctant to help and if they do help you wish they hadn't because they almost always make things more difficult because they make assumptions and don't listen to what you're saying It's also important to point out that Malaysians are also notoriously racist to one another (you won't usually experience it if you're white on the other hand), so much so that many will not eat each other's cuisines and call each other names behind their backsbrbrI'm not trying to say don't come here, but don't think that it is all roses in Malaysia and have a realistic expectation of what the country is really like It's very easy to edit a video showing how great everything is here but excluding a big pile of rotting garbage around the corner, which if you live here long enough will realise that is always around the corner
