Very tragic- but just so everyone knows, hot air ballooning is considered by the FAA the safest form of air travel, and air travel is almost universally safer than driving a car So if you want to go ballooning with a professional, go for it

There was once a piece of disturbing footage I saw once very long ago Filmed around the 1940's I think this group of sailors were tethering, I assume, a weather balloon when a gust of wind lifts it up like 20' per second As it rises, the men holding on the rope start dropping off until the balloon is WAY up high It think there still were a few men clinging on for their lives but one drops and they show him in slow motion falling, flailing his arms
